Fans of R&B and soul music will have the opportunity to combine some live entertainment with a break in a European city over the coming months. Alicia Keys, one of the most successful female solo artists in contemporary pop music, will play live gigs in a number of destinations during a short European tour. The performer will arrive on the continent next month for a show at Lisbon’s Atlantic Pavilion on 29 April, before heading to Austria to appear at the outdoor Ischgl Festival on 1 May.

Travellers will also be able to catch up with the tour in Verona (2 May), Marseille (4 May), Berlin (7 May) and Antwerp (15 May). Keys released her first album, Songs in A Minor, in 2001 and enjoyed immediate success, with the record making it to number one in the US and climbing to sixth place in the UK album charts. She recently collaborated with hip hop icon Jay-Z on the song Empire State of Mind, which topped the charts in the US and peaked at number two in the UK.

Alicia Keys will perform at the opening ceremony of FIFA World Cup to be held in South Africa in June. The FIFA World Cup kick-off celebration concert will open the international sports tournament the night before the first match on June 11 and will feature 12 artists, including a number of African musicians alongside mainstream pop acts, reports contactmusic.com.

“I believe these historic events will go a long way towards uniting the people of our rainbow nation in South Africa,” said former South African soccer player Lucas Radebe, who is organising the concert.
“Music and sports are the lifeblood of African culture, so to combine those in this historic event will be a true celebration of Africa,” he added.

Also performing at the concert are Shakira and Black Eyed Peas along with R&B singer John Legend, Mali’s Amadou and Mariam, Beninoise singer Angelique Kidjo, South African rock group BLK JKS, Columbian rocker Juanes, South African indie group The Parlotones, Saharan desert musicians Tinariwen, Malian singer, guitarist Vieux Farka Toure and South African artist Vusi Mahlasela.
